If Kerala is god's own country, Thiruvananthapuram, also called Trivandrum, is the golden gates to this paradise. Located on seven low hills just like Rome is, Thiruvananthapuram is a small coastal city with red-roofed houses, tree-lined roads and gorgeous palms. Though this is usually the halt en route beaches like Kovalam and Varkala, .the city has a character of its own, a history and a culture worth a few days stay just to find that out.
The city named after Lord Vishnu is not only known for being the capital of a state that boasts of the world-famous Ayurveda treatments and 100 % literacy but for its rich cultural heritage that is reflected in the various festivals and fairs that are held all round the year.
Trivandrum, the capital of the state of Kerala, is a beautiful seaside city built on seven hills. The city gets its name from the word, Thiru Ananthapuram meaning the city of Ananth or the abode of the sacred serpent Anantha, on which Lord Vishnu, the presiding deity of the town, reclines.
